Austin, Dallas, and Jersey City will serve as the testing grounds for a new initiative. Uber has struck a deal to offer customers in select cities the option to use self-driving vehicles. Ford is aiming to alleviate some of the challenges associated with EV charging by offering a free home charger. If you buy or lease a retail Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, or E-Transit between October 1 and January 2, the automaker will also send a technician to install it at no additional cost. Ford may choose to extend this program if it proves successful; however, fleet customers through Ford Pro will receive a $2,000 commercial charging cash incentive instead. Waymo One is now delivering over 100,000 rides each week in San Francisco, Phoenix, and Los Angeles. The company is teaming up with Uber to expand its robotaxi service to additional locations soon. By early 2025, Waymo One will launch in Austin and Atlanta, allowing residents in those cities to ride in Waymo’s autonomous electric Jaguar I-PACE vehicles through the Uber app. Currently, Waymo employees in Austin are already utilizing the service. Volvo has revised its electric vehicle (EV) goals, now stating it will sell 90 to 100 percent electrified vehicles—including plug-in hybrids—by 2030. This change comes over three years after the automaker initially announced plans to sell only electric vehicles by that same year. The remaining 0 to 10 percent of its lineup will consist of mild hybrids. Volvo attributes this adjustment to “changing market conditions and customer demands.” Despite this shift, Volvo remains committed to long-term electrification.
