Alpina has entered a new chapter following its formal integration into BMW Group, revealing its first concept car of the post-acquisition era. Called the Vision BMW Alpina, the one-off design study offers an early look at a forthcoming production model expected to arrive next year.
Unveiled at the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, the concept signals a shift in how Alpina will evolve under BMW’s stewardship—moving from independent tuning house to fully integrated luxury sub-brand with access to BMW’s full engineering and design pipeline.
The Vision BMW Alpina is a large luxury coupe that embodies what the company describes as a blend of “extreme capability, sophistication, and mastery of both performance and comfort.” It is broadly inspired by the BMW 7 Series, although its proportions place it in a unique position: at 204.7 inches long, it sits between the 5 Series and 7 Series in overall size.
Under the hood, the concept features an undisclosed V8 engine tuned for a wide emotional range—delivering subdued, refined output at low speeds while transitioning to a richer, more resonant character at higher revs. While performance figures remain unconfirmed, the emphasis is clearly on a balance between grand touring comfort and traditional Alpina smoothness.
Visually, the car introduces a more sculpted and contemporary interpretation of Alpina design language. The front end is defined by ultra-thin lighting signatures and a three-dimensional illuminated kidney grille, paired with a shark-nose profile and metallic Alpina badging integrated into the lower apron.
One of the brand’s most recognizable elements also returns: its signature 20-spoke wheels, a design motif dating back to 1971. In this concept, they grow dramatically in size, measuring 22 inches at the front and 23 inches at the rear, reinforcing the car’s long, low proportions.
At the rear, four elliptical exhaust outlets emerge from a restrained diffuser design, while slim taillights wrap around the trunk in a clean, horizontal layout. The overall effect is understated rather than aggressive, maintaining Alpina’s long-standing emphasis on elegance over excess.
Inside, the Vision BMW Alpina closely follows BMW’s latest production interior direction. The cabin features the brand’s new Panoramic iDrive system, a large passenger display, and a heavily reduced number of physical controls, signaling how future Alpina models will align more closely with BMW’s digital-first design language.
Adrian van Hooydonk described Alpina’s identity as one rooted in a rare balance of dynamics and refinement. “Alpina has always represented a very specific idea of performance and refinement—where speed and comfort are complementary ambitions,” he said, adding that BMW’s role is to preserve that character while adapting it for a modern context.
Alpina’s transformation follows its acquisition by BMW Group in 2026, marking the end of its decades-long independent tuning identity. Founded in 1965, Alpina built its reputation by refining BMW models into more luxurious, performance-focused alternatives.
Now, under full BMW control, the brand is being repositioned as a distinct luxury pillar within the wider lineup—one that retains its heritage of subtle performance enhancement while gaining access to far greater engineering resources. The Vision BMW Alpina concept suggests that future models will aim to preserve that signature duality, combining high-speed capability with long-distance comfort in a more unified, factory-integrated form.
